Catalog Course Description

 

Introduces the translation of product and service requirements into facilities, procedures and operating organizations. Includes product design, production alternatives, facilities location and layout, resource requirements planning and quality control.

Course Objectives

 

 

Upon successful completion of this course, the student will have developed an understanding of key strategic decisions of operations managers.  By the end of this course students should be able to:
 - Describe what the operations function is and how it relates to other business functions.
 - Understand the key factors that have contributed to the evolution of operations and supply chain management.
 - Discuss how and why businesses operate globally, and the importance of globalization in supply chain management. 
 - Discuss the importance of operations and supply chain management to a firm's strategy and the process of developing, aligning, and deploying strategy.

Grades

 

Grades will be administered in accordance with University policies and practices.  Letter grades will be earned based on total points earned and according to the following:

A  =  90 – 100    points (90% or more)

B  =  80 –  89.9  points (80% - 89.9%)

C  =  70 –  79.9  points (70% - 79.9%)

D  =  60 –  69.0  points (60% - 69.9%)

F  =   0   –  59.9  points (59.9% - or less)

 

Graded Course Activities

There will be graded activities every week of this course, therefore you must remain continuously engaged and ensure you complete all required tasks on time. All graded activities will be open book and open resources, and all will be available for specified time limits. All activities shall be completed as required in Canvas by their due dates and within the pre-determined time limits.

 

Graded activities will be posted under the “Quizzes” area of Canvas and will consist of the following:

  • Quizzes: There will be eight weekly quizzes worth a total of 150 points to be completed individually by the due date and time defined in Canvas.
  • Cases Studies: There will be two case studies worth 50 points each to be completed individually by the due date and time defined in Canvas.
  • Final Exam: There will be a final exam worth 50 points. This exam shall be completed during the class lecture time (5:30pm to 8:30pm) per the weekly course schedule in this syllabus.

 

ALL GRADED WORK SHALL BE COMPLETED INDIVIDUALLY.

 

PLAGIARISM AND COPYING/PASTING ANSWERS

WILL RECEIVE A ZERO SCORE.

 

 

Final grade: The final grade will be based on the maximum amount of 300 points.

 

Late Work Policy Pay close attention to deadlines. There are no make-up assignments and no extra credit or bonus activities. Late work will not be accepted without evidence of a serious and compelling reason along with instructor approval.

 

Guidelines for graded activities:

·         Spelling and grammar are important and subject to penalties.

·         Written answers will be graded according to these criteria:

·         Thoroughness of analyses (appropriate use of tools, concepts, and techniques).

·         Writing clarity (focus, style, cohesion, and writing mechanics).

·         Assignments not submitted on time are subject to penalty.
